Fleming Jordan papers, 1842-1865 (bulk 1862, 1864-1865).

The collection consists of papers of Fleming Jordan from 1842-1865. The majority of the collection consists of letters from Jordan to his wife, Nancy, while he served in the 44th Georgia Infantry Regiment in 1862 and 1864. The letters are written from Golsboro (N.C.) and Richmond (Va.) in 1862 and from Atlanta (Ga.) in 1864 and discuss his health and troop activities. The collection also contains a letter (1854) from his uncle Joshua Hill from the U.S. House of Representatives; letters to Jordan (1862) from Colonel Robert A. Smith, commander of the 44th Regiment; a letter (1862) from J.J. DuBarry, from Richmond, informing Nancy Jordan of the death of her brother, Henry Dillon in battle.
